Rehearsal & Recital Guidelines
All Dancers must arrive at Photo Day, Rehearsals and Recitals promptly on time. All Rehearsals are closed to parents/guardians. Students will be checked in and out at the door. Please inform Miss Nicole or Miss Courtney if someone other than a parent is picking your child up from rehearsal.
It is important to remember that we are out representing NMDStudio and using someone else’s space, so we should always be respectful and on our best behavior. At our Rehearsals & Recital students are only allowed water and non-messy snacks. There is to be no running, yelling or screaming and students/cast are only allowed in permitted areas.
Mini & Junior Levels have assigned Backstage helpers for Rehearsals and Recitals. NMDStudios is not liable for any lost, stolen, broken items on the Properties.
- 1 Water Bottle
- Hair emergency kit (see hair guidelines)
- Ballet Shoes
- Extra pair of tights
- Shirt or Bathrobe to wear over costume
- Small bag with makeup in case of “touch-ups”
- Snack – please avoid things that will make a mess or stain — NO chocolate, juice, chips, or crackers. Thank you!

How your Dancer should look for Photo Day, Full Dress Rehearsals, and Recitals
Costume, Hair & Makeup Standards
Costumes — Costumes will either be purchased or rented from Miss Nicole. Costume purchase information will be handed out in classes and emailed. All costume purchases (rental and/or purchase) are all due by November 7th. If your Dancer’s costume is not paid, your Dancer will not receive their costume and will not be able to participate in the performance. All rental costumes are a $25-$35 fee. If rental costumes are sent back with extensive damage, you will be charged for repairs. All costumes will be kept with Miss Nicole until after the show, all purchased costumes will be given to students. Costumes must be kept clean and together for rehearsals and shows. Miss Nicole will have all headpieces for dancers and all headpieces must be returned to her after photo day, rehearsals and recitals. Remember one of the golden rules when it comes to performing — if someone’s headpiece or extra part of costume is lost or broken before entering the stage to perform, all dancers in the group must take the item out — we want all the group performers to look the same.
IMPORTANT: Dancers should arrive wearing a nude-colored body liner and clean pink ballet tights for all dress rehearsals and performances. Please send your dancer to rehearsal and recital with a bathrobe to protect their costumes.
Hair — Hair must be worn in a neatly pulled back bun with hair net to secure. Hair must have gel or hairspray as well as bobby pins and bun pins to secure bun. Please be sure to send your dancer to dress rehearsals and recitals with their hair kit consisting of: hair spray and/or gel, lots of bobby pins and bun pins for touch ups and for headpieces, etc. All Dancer’s buns must be placed at the center back of the head (see below), for a ballet bun. Click here to view a video tutorial on YouTube. Please ask Miss Nicole for any pointers and tips on nice clean buns. Here is a hair tutorial by Miss Nicole (must be logged into BAND to view. Please contact Miss Nicole for access). Dancers that are Party Girls or Clara are required to have clip-in curls for the Party Scene. Miss Nicole has them and they must be returned to her.
Makeup — All Dancers must have a natural make-up on them, for Photo Day, Full Dress Rehearsals and Recitals. We would like all dancers to wear natural eye make-up (see images). This consists of light brown tones as well as light pinks and students should have a light layer of mascara and/or eyeliner. Ballet students in levels Intermediate and Advanced may also wear fake eyelashes. Lips should have a natural lip color as well. Blush should be worn as well to avoid being washed out by the lights.
